Google Trends
With the online tool “Google Trends”, users can find out how often certain keywords, topics and phrases were queried in a specified period of time.
Definition
Google Trends is an online search tool that allows you to analyze the popularity of individual terms and interests of users over time. Thus, trends are visible, as well as forecasts in relation to the most searched terms possible. The results are seen in comparison to the total search volume and are available in weekly resolution for the entire world or individual regions. Since 2012, Google Insights for Search features have been integrated into the service.

As an example, we have searched for “buy backlinks” and can now compare this keyword with other keywords, select the country and narrow down the time period. Below in the course it is now clear that the search queries for this keyword are subject to strong fluctuations.
Tip: With this tool you can e.g. Adjust the timeframe of an ad campaign or precisely time the publication of your blog content to get maximum results. Should, for example. your page views decrease or increase strongly, you can compare this with the trends and thus draw meaningful conclusions.

Especially for “local requests” the tool still offers something very helpful. We searched for the classic “locksmith” and here you can see that you are even shown the sub-regions of the corresponding queries. Thus one can discuss e.g. whether Advertising is worthwhile at all (for local inquiries).
Additionally you get information about similar topics and search queries.
How does Google Trends work?
Google Trends maps the most popular searches in different countries and in different cities, which you can sort by country, city and time period. You can also select categories that match the keywords. Filtering by image search, news search, Google Shopping or YouTube videos is also possible.
Google makes a distinction between trends and hot searches. The time factor plays a significant role here. Based on the data that Google takes from the search queries, trends are derived and predicted. Forecasts should not be confused with the absolute numbers of actual searches, as Google relates them to the passage of time.
Important: Google distinguishes between popular search queries and trends.
What does Google Trends do for you?
Google Trends becomes interesting when multiple search terms are mapped. With it you can find out correlations to put often searched terms, their search volume and the time course in relation.
In Google Trends, you can query up to five words or topics at a time. The results are displayed in a graph called the Search Volume Index Graph. You can convert the information from the graphic into a CSV file, and then import it into Excel and other spreadsheet programs.Even though the data provided by Google Trends is updated every day, Google points to a disclaimer that the data produced by Trends is “for a number of reasons may contain inaccuracies, including problems with data collection and a variety of estimates used to calculate results.”
Conclusion
With Google Trends you can analyze the popularity of individual terms over time. This way you can spot forming trends in society.
In any case, use this tool as a guide for your content plans or ad campaign plan, but don’t rely completely on the results, but analyze other important factors.
Good to know: Search queries for company names and their closing volumes on the stock exchange are related to each other.
