Every beginning is hard!

When you’re setting up a new site, you’ve got your hands full. Also, when link building for new sites, many do not know how and where to start exactly to “populate” the link profile little by little.

We’ll explain what you should consider before starting and how to go about building links!

Prepare your site for link building

Checklist with 3 points

No website is “perfect”!
Still, there are certain things that should be done before you start getting “referrals from other sites” – because that’s all backlinks are. So before you start your link building actively, check conscientiously if you can confirm the following points:

  • Are you delivering quality content (worth linking to) to your users?
  • Do you create certain incentives to get linked?
  • Has your website’s internal link structure been maintained?
  • Do you offer collaborations?

Google has precise ideas about “good content”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFxNda5Z4eE&t=54sWenn you don’t have much content with “added value” on your page yet, this is not so tragic – nevertheless you should deliver good content in the beginning, so that your page is also ranked correctly by Google.

Focus on what users want to read!

Without a well-maintained link structure, your link building suffers as well. Therefore, you should make sure that your internal links are in place and actually help users find the right content / pages. If you can’t answer each of these points with at least a smirking “yup”, you shouldn’t start link building just yet!

Get your site online, even if it still resembles a “construction site”!

Get your site online, even if it still resembles a “construction site”!

Even if your site is not yet ready but usable and you can deliver at least some good content, you should already put it online.

This will save you time as the Google algorithm can already crawl and rank your site. This way you can counteract the sandbox phenomenon a bit.

Important: the contents! Even if the content is still in progress and not finished, there should be at least some good content – so Google will rate these pages better and you will achieve faster, better rankings.

Always have the following points in mind

  • Link building is much more challenging than it used to be!
  • Google ‘s algorithm never stops learning and is always better at assessing link building.
  • Always keep
    Google Webmaster Guidelines
    in the eye.

If you take these points to heart, you should now plan your link building effectively and accurately! If you lack the experience yourself, you better get advice from an expert who can apply the current methods, otherwise this can quickly backfire!

One more thing: forget about tactics like “money keywords and over-optimized texts“, which hardly any normal person can read.

Build the first backlinks

Depending on the area of your site, you can pretty easily generate the first links through profiles on social networks, web and business directories. It is just as easy to approach cooperation partners or suppliers for a reference link. This is usually done quickly and will get you the first referrals to your site.

Pay particular attention to business directories and web directories, there are not too many these days that are useful to you at all.

Here are a few portals that are still worth an entry:

– mycity.com
– find-open.com
– bundes-telefonbuch.de
– oeffnungszeitenbuch.de
– iglobal.com
– golocal.com
– goyellow.com
– web2.cylex.com
– company-information.com
– dialo.com

In addition, there are of course industry-specific web directories, such as for real estate agents, etc.

Here’s another post for the first, free link sources!

The competitor check: see what the competition is doing!

The next, logical step is to analyze the competition. Pages from similar areas logically also have similar or even references from the same pages.

So find a few competitors and check their link profiles. About ahrefs for example. you will then get an overview of what types of links a particular competitor has in their link profile.

Linkbuilding

With ahrefs you can see exactly how many links lead to the corresponding page, whether there are Dofollow or Nofollow links are and even how much Traffic is generated through these links. If you open the link in the preview, you can see what kind of link it is. In the case of the link below, you can see directly that it is a valuable link from a blog article .

Linkbuilding

Outreach vs. Guestposting

Outreach

This is a very effective method, but is not used in all areas, as it requires considerable effort.

First, look at what popular sites from your area would be good to grab a link from.

We take as an example a page for women from the area “Beauty & Lifestyle Products”.
Now let’s think about which pages the target audience will find themselves on. These include magazines such as freundin.de, petra.de, jolie.de or deavita.com.

In the next step, you look for a suitable topic that the target group is “burning” interested in – but wait!
Important:
The topic should not have been treated on the site before – otherwise it would be uninteresting 😛

Once you’ve found an exciting topic, you should adapt the content directly to the style of the page you want the link from. This way you increase the probability that the content will be published.

Once the content is written, it’s all about the speech! You have to sell here! Find a contact from the site (preferably from the content department) and compose an email pitching your content.
Emphasize that your unique content fits perfectly within the subject area of the page and ideally appeals to the target audience. If the content is worth it, you’ll get a valuable link that way too.

Guestposting (guest article)

The other valuable way to boost your link building for new sites to launch is through guest articles.

This form is usually not as costly as the outreach variant, since many website operators generally offer the possibility for guest article placements.

When searching for appropriate pages, you can also take a look at the link profiles of your competitors . There you should usually find some good possibilities. Alternatively, you can check out social media or relevant platforms to find good opportunities for guest articles.

Alternative link sources

If you’ve already been involved with outreach or guest article placement, you’ll quickly realize that it takes a lot of time.
It is even more sobering when the requests are rejected and the possible sources shrink more and more.

The only option left here is to put the whole thing in the hands of professionals. That can
– a freelancer
– one agency
– or a contact from social networks (groups) can be, which plan your linkbuilding and already have the contact to the publisher. In doing so, you run the risk of your partner using old link building practices – so inform yourself well!

This will save you a lot of time and nerves!

Linkbuilding

Conclusion:

Link building can be a “real struggle” depending on your field/industry. If you follow our tips & tricks and don’t rely on link building tactics from 2005, you should be able to build a good link profile quickly.
